‘Cowboy Kate’ won the Prix Nadar in 1964 and was in included in the ICP New York exhibition ‘The Open Book: A History of the Photographic Book from 1878 to the Present’ in 2005. The image on the front cover has been ‘referenced’ endlessly over many decades featuring stars from Brigitte Bardot to Madonna and more recently, Beyonce.
The print is a rare later (lifetime) silver gelatin, printed by Sam. Print Dimensions 29.0cm x 38.7cm (11.4”” 15.2”) - Frame Dimensions: 54.2cm x 64.2cm (21.3” x 25.2”). Fully certified by the estate. The entire silver gelatin archive is characterised by rarity. Sam never made big print runs he essentially printed to produce book maquettes (four copies for each of the four 60’s book titles and then moved on to the next project. The photo print market was at a nascent stage back in the sixties.
The frame is solid ash with 8-ply cotton rag, museum grade board for the passepartout. It is glazed with UV resistant acrylic.
