Kate is a light hearted tale - executed with stunning photography - that has been etched into photo history. Kate later also became something of a fictional feminist heroine for rescuing herself from an injustice. The project was really quintessential sixties fun but the photography itself was deadly serious. The book, to this day remains a tour de force of creative photographic craftsmanship and darkroom printing. An interesting technical aside is that the smoke from the firing revolver was created with cigarette smoke blown through a rubber pipe. The multi-position motion blur was a technique repeated with the swinging saloon doors and the swinging lamp after the gun went off in the saloon.
The prints are not dry mounted as a pair they are being sold together but as two separate prints. The price shown is for both prints.
Condition: Kate Hat Shadow: This is a later c.1980 silver gelatin print in excellent condition. There is a very small corner crease in the bottom left hand corner which is confined to the margin. Revolver Firing: Vintage silver gelatin print in very good condition.
