Cowboy Kate and Other Stories (1975 Edition)

£500.00

We were down to the last copy of this mint condition vintage collectible, when some copies left over from a photo fair in LA back in 2015 finally made their way back to the UK. So this unique supply of books is back to a small stock. This is a rare ‘as new’ numbered collector’s item. If you just want a regular secondhand copy of ‘Kate’ then search on www.abebooks.com.

Limited Edition (of 1500) hardback Cowboy Kate & Other Stories. This is a second edition (published by Haskins Press in 1975) of the seminal sixties classic.

Although published in 1975 the book is based on 1,500 unbound copies of the original 1964 edition which were found in the Swiss printer's warehouse after the death of their leading gravure printer forced a closure of the business.

New and in its original condition (subject to some small imperfections due to age).

Each copy is individually stamped and numbered by The Sam Haskins Estate.

Cowboy Kate is a landmark in the history of photography, as revered today as it was first published fifty years ago. It is a lyrical tale played out by a dynamic heroine who saves herself, Haskins reinvented the genre of the nude with stunningly well-executed photographs, a cinematic approach, and a subtly engaging narrative. Often copied but rarely equaled.

‘Cowboy Kate and Other Stories’ (1964) is the second book in the groundbreaking 60’s figure themed trilogy, which started with ‘Five Girls’ (1962) and culminated in the meditation of longing for a lost love in ‘November Girl’ (1967).

Cowboy Kate won the Prix Nadar in France in 1964 and was included in the 2005 Hasselblad ICP exhibition in New York ‘The Open Book: A History of the Photographic Book from 1878 to the Present’.
