November Girl Lying Under Portrait with White Legs - *Signed* Vintage - Only Copy

£3,000.00
sold out

CONDITION: Good. Small corner creases top left, top right and bottom left and small tear in the bottom left hand edge all effectively obscured by the passepartout. Surface scuffing as this was a printers proof but artistically perfect. Single weight silver gelatin vintage print 1966. From the November Girl project and in the book.

RARITY: As utterly rare as it gets, there are three versions of this image in the estate all with different darkroom treatment (varying degrees of enlarger dodging on the legs). Sam viewed this particular print as the definitive version.

This is the only signed print of this image. The print is vintage 1966, made with single weight silver gelatin paper. Printed by Sam. Signed Verso in pencil. Size: 15” x 12” [38.0cm x 30.5cm]

PLEASE NOTE: The book layout image is purely for reference.

November Girl 1967 was the last book in the 60’s figure book trilogy. It is really the classical music concerto to Kate’s timeless pop music. Rather than the light heartted whimsical story of Cowboy Kate, the girl who unfairly gets into trouble and then rescues herself, November Girl takes a photographically beautiful but emotionallly serious look at loss, love, longing, loneliness and the spiritual imperative to keep living. Many passionate photo collectors have said to the estate - without prompting - that November Girl, despite ‘Kate’s’ popularity, is the superior book. When November Girl came out Foyle’s in London dedicated an entire window to the book. November Girl is a timeless definitive book that stylistically played a key role in both defininng the era and lamenting the broken dreams of the sixties.

Silver Gelatin prints (both vintage and later) acquired directly from the estate are accompanied by a free estate print of the same image. These are identical to our standard size estate prints. To the best of our knowledge we are the only photographic estate in the world offering this generous flexible feature when purchasing a vintage work by Sam. These estate prints are produced to museum standards and appear on the secondary market with values up to USD $3,000. This second print has proved to be very popular, it provides flexibility of ownership and makes for a wonderful gift.

“Seldom if ever has a female nude been treated with such photographic sensitivity. A beautiful large-format book by a master in his field.
