Shirley's Frustration

£2,250.00

Originally intended for one of the ‘Other’ stories, ‘Model Artist’s Model’ in Cowboy Kate & Other Stories 1964. This image features the model who was ‘Cowboy Kate’ in the book. Like several other tremendous photographs, it fell prey to limited space and was edited out at the last minute. It’s the only known print.

SIZE: Media: 38.75cm x 30.50cm (15.25” x 12.00”), Image: 37.30cm x 29.45cm (14.68” x 11.59”)

CONDITION: Very good condition. Retouched by Sam. True vintage, Image 1963, Print 1963. Small crease bottom left hand edge protrudes into image by 2mm and rough 8mm long parallel to edge,, barely visible. Small corner crease top right hand edge, within margin. Light surface marks commensurate with age.

RARITY: Only known print.

Please note that during the June 2025 Sale, all Cowboy Kate silver gelatin print buyers will also receive a free copy of the 1975 limited edition of Cowboy Kate & Other Stories. Online sellers are listing the book for between £80 and £800 depending on condition and signature. Our copies (there are a very few left) are pristine in the printers original orange tissue paper and bumper cartons. No online (or bricks and mortar) bookstores have pristine copies. The pages in this 1975 edition were from the original 1964 photo gravure printing - that were discovered in a warehouse a decade later - you can read more about the book on our site.

Silver Gelatin prints (both vintage and later) acquired directly from the estate are accompanied by a free estate print of the same image. These are identical to our standard size estate prints. To the best of our knowledge we are the only photographic estate in the world offering this generous flexible feature of owning a vintage work by Sam. These estate prints are produced to museum standards and appear on the secondary market with values up to USD $3,000. This second print has proved to be very popular, it provides flexibility of ownership and makes for a wonderful gift.

The image of the PIN (Print Identification Number) Stamp, is reproduced on our PIN Certificates.

If necessary, please contact the estate directly for assistance with all your collecting questions.
