Sunday - Pocket full of daisies
From the Sunday chapter of ‘Cowboy Kate & Other Stories’ 1964. This is a large print, Only a small number of Kate Images were ever printed by Sam at these larger scales. They were bigger than he needed to make the book maquettes. So, for posterity and for his own pleasure he made a few large prints and here they are…treasure for future generations of Cowboy Kate lovers.
SIZE: Media: 40.60cm x 51.65cm (15.98” x 20.33”), Image: 35.35cm x 50.95cm (13.91” x 20.05)
CONDITION: Overall this print is stunning. Technically the condition is good to very good. There is a corner crease in the top left hand margin and a bigger but softer crease (no surface cracking) across the same corner running from 45mm from the top left hand corner on the horizontal axis and 85mm from the corner on the vertical axis. There are some slight surface creases commensurate with age and handling. True vintage; Image 1963, Print 1963.
RARITY: One of three large prints. All are more or less in the same condition, and all are artistically identical.
The book spread shown here is to show the work in context.
Please note that during the June 2025 Sale, all Cowboy Kate silver gelatin print buyers will also receive a free copy of the 1975 limited edition of Cowboy Kate & Other Stories. Online sellers are listing the book for between £80 and £800 depending on condition and signature. Our copies (there are a very few left) are pristine in the printers original orange tissue paper and bumper cartons. No online (or bricks and mortar) bookstores have pristine copies. The pages in this 1975 edition were from the original 1964 photo gravure printing - that were discovered in a warehouse a decade later - you can read more about the book on our site.
Silver Gelatin prints (both vintage and later) acquired directly from the estate are accompanied by a free estate print of the same image. These are identical to our standard size estate prints. To the best of our knowledge we are the only photographic estate in the world offering this generous flexible feature of owning a vintage work by Sam. These estate prints are produced to museum standards and appear on the secondary market with values up to USD $3,000. This second print has proved to be very popular, it provides flexibility of ownership and makes for a wonderful gift.
